North east snowsports association

NESA is an association of SSE registered clubs and facilities within the north east of England. The aim of the organisation is to encourage, support and facilitate the development, participation and competition of all aspects of snowsports, within the region. NESA represent the interests of the local area at national level and participates in the formulation and implementation of national governing body policy.

There are a number of SSE affiliated snow sport clubs in the NESA region. These include the City of Sunderland RTR Ski Racing and Development Club, Tyneside Loipers, Weardale Ski Club and Allenheads Ski Club. Click here for more information about clubs.

The Northeast has two artificial slope snowsport centres and a number of clubs operating outdoor snow slopes. The region’s main year-round outdoor Alpine facility is at Silksworth Ski Centre, Sunderland. There is also an artifical slope at Whickham Thornes Outdoor Activity Centre, Dunston. The region’s clubs and facilities offer opportunities for most snowsport disciplines including Alpine, Nordic, Telemark, Freestyle, Snowboarding and Snowtubing. These activities include recreational, development, training and competitions.

coaching & instruction

The NESA region has instructors and coaches who are qualified to provide training at artificial outdoor and indoor facilities as well as on snow. The region also has a number of Tutors who are qualified to train new Instructors and coaches. Alpine ski development and performance coaching is available up to international competition level. The region also has “adaptive skiing” qualified coaches to meet the needs of participants with disabilities.
